Investigation Grants

TKWA is prepared to offer grants to selected prospective users. These grants are a contribution towards an investigation into establishing whether an activity has the potential to become a significant water user.

The availability of these grants is a reflection of the commitment of TKWA to create a partnership relationship with its users and potential users.

The eligibility criteria for the grants include:

  • The project must be within the area able to be serviced by the scheme.
  • The project planning must be well advanced with preliminary estimates of the capital commitments required. Grants are not available where the prospect of the project being completed is speculative.
  • Grants are not available to any applicant where consent is being sought, or is planned to be sought, for any Environment Waikato “extraction” water right.
  • Any grant must be approved by TKWA before expenditure is undertaken.
  • The grants are for a maximum of $10,000. This amount has to be matched by $2 of your expenditure for $1 of grant. The grant is paid after your expenditure has been made.
  • Grants will be considered for:
    • Engineering reports into the ability to supply the quantities of water required at the nominated location.
    • Engineering reports into costings for the on-site treatment of water and waste water to meet the applicant’s requirements.
    • Engineering reports into the cost of any extension required to the current network.
    • The cost of applying for consents and permits in relation to the discharge of any waste water.
    • Note: In all cases the applicant must agree to provide copies of the full report and ancillary data to TKWA for future reference.
  • TKWA reserves the right, at the applicant’s expense, to audit the contributions made by the applicant.
  • TKWA may decline any application without stating a reason.
